The Tall Girl's Dressing Guide

The Tall Girl's Dressing Guide

tall girl's dressing guide

I'm not going to sit here and say that I feel your pain, that I empathize, that I understand where you're coming from. Because I don't. I'm short. However, although I can't relate to the dressing issues that you might have as a result of your tallness, I still would love to provide you with some tips on how to flatter your long figure.

Oh, and maybe this is just my opinion, but I really do think that clothing, for the most part, looks better on the taller folk amongst us. Consider yourself blessed.

Patterns

When it comes to patterns for tall girls, go big or go home. No, no, only joking, don't go home. I just really wanted to use that phrase. But really, big patterns won't hurt you. If anyone can pull off large prints and patterns, it's tall gals. Go for it! Also, horizontal lines will make you appear shorter, if that's a look you want to achieve.

accessories

You know those cool vintage earrings you saw last week that were 6 inches long and wide? Get them. Tall girls can where large, over-the-top accessories. Stock up on statement necklaces, rings with giant stones, sun hats, floral bouquets for the top of your head, and stackable bracelets. Oh, and don't forget some Jackie O sunglasses.

skirts

Many people avoid midi skirts because the midis cut their legs at an awkward spot. Not mucho flattering. But you, my tall friend, have nothing to fear. Midi skirts are your bestest friends. Your legs are long enough that a little bit of cut-off won't hurt you. Another skirt style to try: flared skirts, because they add curves and break up long, straight lines.

jackets and coats

You tall girls get to wear extra-long jackets, until or even past the knees. You can also wear jackets ending at the waistline, because who cares if that length cuts the body - you have a few extra inches to spare. You can also wear capes and fuller cuts in your coats. Another idea: experiment with double-breasted jackets. (Sigh, I love all of these styles. I'm really a tall girl in a short girl's body.)

everything else

Some other styles that work well for tall girls: outfits with color contrasts on top and bottom (color blocking), heavier and bulkier fabrics, volume, exaggerated looks, and cuffed pants.

On a completely unrelated note, yep, nailed it:
