Jun 4 10 Wardrobe Staples You Need To Have

I published a post last month titled My Top 8 Style Tips. In that post, I said (and I quote myself - yes, I'm quoting myself), " So, how are you supposed to keep your closet fresh and current? Answer: always have the essential, classic pieces in your closet that you can wear every season. And then, every once in a while, buy a few items that are more trendy."

And then I went on to talk about the trendy items. This post, however, is dedicated to the other category I mentioned - the "essential, classic" category. Below, I outline the top 10 wardrobe essentials I think every woman should own, and provide you with a few visual examples. Because I'm all about the visual examples (visual examples, by the way, means pictures, in fancy language). I also mentioned in My Top 8 Style Tips post that another way to keep your wardrobe fresh is by mixing and matching. I mention this point again to emphasize the absolute crucial importance (again, fancy language) of mixing your basics with your wear-one-season items. Okay, maybe I'm getting a bit carried away with my fancy talk, and it's not all that "crucially important," but still, mixing your wardrobe classics with your trendy pieces does produce some stylish results. So, let's hop to it.

1. LBD

The LBD (little black dress - yes, LBDs are so cool they get their own abbreviation) is a closet must-have. An LBD is appropriate for almost every occasion and will never appear out-dated. Wear an LBD to work, to an after-work party, to a wedding, to a funeral, to a picnic, to a meeting, to a class reunion, and to the grocery store. And lots of other places. 2. Dark Blazer

A dark blazer, just like an LBD, is perfect for so many different situations. Don't worry, I'm not going to rewrite the list from before , but you can wear a blazer over the LBD to all those above mentioned places. For example, you can sport a sleeveless LBD with a black blazer over it to work, and then simply remove the blazer after work and head straight to a party. So basically, removing a blazer make you instantly party-ready. Real magic exists, guys.

3. White Tee

A basic white tee. Layer it, or wear it alone - either way, you'll look chic and timeless. And be super comfy.

4. Black and nude pumps

Behold are some classic pairs of pumps, in the two most classic colors, nude and black. Get one. Or four.

5. Day Dress

Although I think you should have more than one dress in your closet (aside from an LBD, duh), if for any reason that's simply not a feasible option for you, aim for one dress that will be appropriate for most any daytime occasion. You know, something casual, cute, and comfortable. Like these:

6. Evening dress

Just like with the day dress, if you're only going to purchase one evening dress, it should work for most evening occasions. Just make sure your evening dress is slightly more formal than your day dress.

7. dark Jeans

Jeans are classic. Dark, skinny jeans - even more so. Here are a few solid pairs:

8. White button-down shirt

9. Black pants

A simple pair of black trousers is great for work when paired with a button down or silky top, and great for play when paired with a solid (see white tees above) or patterned tee.
