My New Current Favorite Beauty Items
It. has. been. so. long. since. I’ve. done. a. beauty. post. on. this. blog.
It’s just that it always takes me a while. To acquire enough new products that I love and really want to share with you. I generally tend to stick to my tried and true stuff, so when I do discover a new beauty item that I’m obsessed with, it’s very exciting.
As of today, I’ve accumulated ten new items since my last beauty post that I feel are worthy of being featured in this beauty/makeup/accessories post.
Lots of the items below fall into the makeup category. But, I’ve got some randoms as well. Like a perfume. And a facial soap. And hidden-zipper scrunchies (I KNOWWWWW — HOW COOL AND CONVENIENT?!). And a mouthwash. And deodorant.
So, maybe a more accurate or encompassing title for this collection of items would be “toiletries” rather than “beauty items,” but eh, “toiletries” doesn’t sound appealing in that kinda way.
Well. Here they are. My new current favorite beauty items. Let us begin:
1. Hidden Zipper Velvet Scrunchies
LokiStashed Hidden Zipper Velvet Scrunchies ($10 for 3)
This pack of scrunchies is one of my favorite new discoveries. I wear scrunchies almost every day, and I like to carry around gum with me almost every day. Thing is, it’s annoying to carry around a bag just for a few pieces of gum or some mints or some chapstick or cash. Enter the hidden zipper scrunchie: wear it around your wrist as a bracelet, or even tie it around your hair if your paraphernalia aren’t too bulky, and hide your tiny essentials inside for the most convenient “bag” ever.
2. Garnier Curl Sculpt Cream Gel
Garnier Curl Sculpt Cream Gel ($3.49)
After lots of trial and error, I’ve learned that the best hair product for my curls is a hybrid cream-gel. Or a lightweight cream. A full-on gel or cream weighs down my curls too much and give them a wetter, less bouncy look.
And, the best product I’ve found thus far from the drugstore is this Garnier conditioning cream gel. I mean, it’s under $4. If you have curls, give it a shot.
3. Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter
Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter ($44)
This product can be used on your whole face, as a glowing primer, or can be worn on its own, as a dewy complexion enhancer. But I use this flawless filter as a highlighter. It’s subtle and makes you look like you’re glowing from within and really does smooth out the complexion.
4. Glossier You
This is a very unique perfume. It isn’t your typical light, floral scent you’d often find in a department store. It’s warm and earthy and musky but also fresh and feminine. And, it’s long-lasting and less pricey than your average high-end perfume. It’s different than any perfume I’ve ever come across; I’m obsessed, and I’m VERY picky with my perfumes, and scents in general.
5. Natural Deodorants
Naturally Fresh Spray Mist ($8.60)
Kopari Coconut Deodorant ($14)
I’ve been on the hunt for a good (read: one that actually works at preventing some semblance of sweat) natural deodorant for a while. And I’ve found the combination of these two aluminum-free deodorants to be the most effective. The spray mist is simply water and salt, which is surprisingly potent, and when combined with the Kopari coconut deodorant — which happens to be one of the best-smelling deodorants I’ve ever come across — the job gets done well.
6. Essential Oxygen Organic Mouthwash
Essential Oxygen Organic Mouthwash ($16)
This organic brushing rinse uses hydrogen peroxide, aloe vera, and essential oils to whiten teeth and freshen breath. It works so much better than the classic, very unnatural and colored mouthwashes I used to use, and I’m so happy I’ve discovered this. It’s kinda life-changing, tbh.
7. Maybelline Snapscara
This Maybelline mascara is legit the only mascara I use anymore. It’s a fiber mascara, which means it coats each lash with an inked fiber instead of just applying color to the lashes. And it DOESN’T BUDGE. And it thickens and lengthens like woah. If you use the regular version, it’ll wipe off painlessly and cleanly with some water. And if you use the waterproof version, which is my go-to, the mascara will literally not flake or smudge, no matter what you put it through.
8. Noble Formula 2% Pyrithione Zinc Soap
Noble Formula 2% Pyrithione Zinc Soap ($12.99)
This soap bar has been life-changing for my skin, and I’m not exaggerating. It’s the MOST EFFECTIVE product I’ve ever used to combat facial acne. And it’s non-prescription and affordable and doesn’t irritate or dry out my skin and is made with just four ingredients — olive oil, emu oil, oats, and zinc pyrithione, the latter of which is anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. So if your acne is the result of bacteria build-up, this facial soap may just be your savior.
9. Makeup Forever Ultra HD Self-Setting Concealer
Makeup Forever Ultra HD Self-Setting Concealer ($28)
If you’re looking for a concealer that is practically invisible on the skin, this one is it. It has the most natural finish, a medium yet buildable coverage, and isn’t drying. This is what I use every day on my face. However, I will say that when used under the eyes, this concealer tends to crease quite a bit on me, which is why I’ll use my other favorite, the Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Concealer, for my under eyes, and this Makeup Forever one for the other areas of my face.
10. ColourPop Blush Stix
I use this cream blush every day. It’s affordable, it’s long-lasting, it’s creamy, and it blends beautifully. The labeling on my stick is all smudged out thanks to my frequent handling of this blush, so I can’t confirm which color I purchased, but I have a feeling it was “cool it.”
